Emergency Medical Preparedness Educational Session (April 15, 2005)

On April 15th, 2005, the Inquiry and the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario held an educational session on the subject of emergency medical procedures and preparedness in Ontario. The purpose of the session was to assist counsel and parties to better understand emergency medical procedures/preparedness and the integration of police, paramedics, and hospitals.

The session focussed on developments since 1995 and discussed how better planning/integration can be used to reduce violence in the future. This session coincided with the start of emergency medical witnesses at Part One of the Inquiry.

The session included presentations by four experts on emergency medical procedures and preparedness in Ontario, including:

"Hospital Emergency Preparedness" by Dr. Andrew McCallum
"Integration of Police and Emergency Medical Services" by Dr. Brian Schwartz
"Major Public Order Event Planning" by Ottawa Police Service Superintendent Pat Hayes
"Emergency Medical Services and Police Interoperability" by Mr. Mark Castle

Additional information about the educational session is posted here:
