Youth & Elders Forum about Aboriginal and Police Relations
On April 22, 2005, the Ipperwash Inquiry hosted a
Youth & Elders Forum about Aboriginal and Police Relations
in Forest, Ontario. Approximately 70
people participated, including elders and youth from Aamjiwnaang (Sarnia) First
Nation, Aazhoodena, Bkwejwanong Territory (Walpole Island) First Nation,
Chippewas of the Thames, Delaware Nation (Moravin of the Thames), Kettle and Stony
Point First Nation, Munsee-Delaware Nation and the Oneida of the Thames.
Elder Fred Plain from Aamjiwnaang First Nation gave the opening and
closing prayer, and Justice of the Peace Donna Phillips from Oneida of the
Thames First Nation delivered the keynote address. The Ipperwash Inquiry
Commissioner, Mr. Justice Sidney Linden, and lead Commission Counsel, Derry Millar,
participated in the Forum. Jodie-Lynn Waddilove, who is from Munsee-Delaware First
Nation and is Assistant Commission counsel, facilitated the Forum.
