The Scrapbook of Mary Murray Hendrie: Picturing the Life of Ontario’s Elite in the Victorian Age

Ever wonder what it was like to live as one of Ontario’s elite during the Victorian Age? The scrapbook of Mary Murray Hendrie is the subject of a new Archives of Ontario exhibit. Now in our Reading Room!

The images in this exhibit are taken from the William Hendrie fonds (F 276) and the Sir John and Lady Hendrie fonds (F 4657).

The William Hendrie fonds consists of the personal and business records of William Hendrie and some of his relatives. Details from the scrapbook of Mary Murray Hendrie, wife of William Hendrie, are displayed to showcase the familial and elite social activities of the Victorian age. The Sir John and Lady Hendrie fonds consists of personal records created and received by Sir John Hendrie (son of William Hendrie) and his wife, Lady Lena Maude Hendrie. Included in this exhibit are studio photographs of William Hendrie and a panoramic family photograph.
