Introduction

This series consists of annual returns of marriages, baptisms and deaths made by ministers residing in the County of Perth and filed by the Clerk of the Peace (after 1869, acting as Division Registrar) as well as related registers, indexes and record books.

Marriage returns list all the marriages solemnized by a minister in a single year. The returns typically list the name, age, residence, and place of birth of both the bride and groom, the names of their parents and the witnesses and the date of the marriage. In addition to the marriage returns, some ministers submitted returns listing baptisms and/or burials at which they officiated during a year.

Baptismal returns typically list the name of the child and parents, the date of birth and the date of baptism.

Burial returns usually list the name and age of the deceased, the date of death, the date of burial, the names of parents (for children) and the place of residence.

The registers are arranged chronologically by the date the return was filed by the Clerk of the Peace as opposed to the date of the event and are available on microfilm.

In order to view these reels you may:

• Consult the appropriate reel at our reading room on the ground floor, 134 Ian Macdonald Blvd., Toronto.
• Borrow the reel through the Interlibrary Loan Department of your public library. Quote the appropriate reel #, either MS 5095 or MS 5096. These reels cannot leave the borrowing library, so make sure to request them from a library that has a microfilm reader.
