The Direct Clergy Returns
listed in the table below
contain information about births, deaths and marriages reported
to the Office of the Registrar General by clergy without
the intervention of a local Division Registrar.
All registrations in this series are from Simcoe County.
Each type of registration is filed separately and arranged
alphabetically by the surname of the father, groom or the
deceased.
What was recorded in the registrations:
Births: Name, date and location of birth,
and sex of newborn; parents' names (including the mother's
maiden name); father's occupation; informant's name; name
of the physician in attendance.
Marriages: The name of the bride and groom;
their ages; residence when married; place of birth; marital
status; occupation; parents' names; religious denomination.
Additional information could include: witnesses' names and
residences; date and place of marriage; whether the marriage
was conducted by license or by banns; signature of the officiating
clergy.
Deaths: Name, sex, age, occupation, religious
denomination and place of birth of the deceased; date and
cause of death; name of the physician in attendance; signature
of the informant.

- Consult MS 936, Reel 1 in our reading
room on the ground floor, 134 Ian Macdonald Blvd., Toronto.
- Through the Interlibrary Loan Department of your public
library, borrow microfilm MS 936, Reel 1.
This reel cannot leave the borrowing library, so make
sure to request it from a library that has a microfilm
reader.
- Borrow the film from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints through their Family
History Centres. The Family History Centres
have a different numbering system than the Archives of
Ontario. These Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU) conversion
numbers have been provided in the right hand column of
the table below or, for a complete list of all GSU conversion
numbers, consult the microfilm
conversion list.
