The sixth relates to his interest in Indian legends and compliments his large scale mural, Indian Legends which was commissioned and installed on the second floor of the Macdonald Block at Bay and Wellesley streets in 1968.

Works by Michael Close donated by Michael and Menka Close

The works in this donation reveal the artist’s interest in design and pattern. Based on a decorative approach to the subject of the face, calligraphic lines of bright colour and blocks of paint have been used to create a bold and individualistic series of paintings.

Works by Edward Lukeman donated by Marry Lukeman

Edward (Ted) Lukeman was born in Toronto in 1924 and died in Port Hope in 1987. He worked professionally as a graphic designer and photographer, but his main interest in life was sketching and painting.

Of particular note are his numerous landscapes which record his impressions of the changing seasons in rural Southern Ontario. Two works from Lukeman’s prodigious output were donated by the artist’s widow, Marry Lukeman, to the Government of Ontario Art Collection in 2004.
