Art at Queen's Park: Through the Eyes of Canadian Artists
Grade 6 – Visual Arts/ Language Arts

Purpose
This lesson plan helps introduce students to paintings by Canadian artists displayed in the Macdonald Block Complex at Queen’s Park. Through the eyes of these artists, students can look into Ontario’s past. By sharing these paintings with students and encouraging them to create their own art work, students can gain artistic confidence. This lesson plan also introduces the processes needed to create darker shades of colour as well as lighter tints of colour.
Students learn to link the study of the arts with the study of history and human interaction, and gain an appreciation of the great importance of the arts, both as a source of enjoyment and as a means of communication.
