Overview
This lesson revolves around the use of primary and secondary source documents, and requires students to use a number of skills, including interpretation, analysis, critical thinking, and communication. The archival documents are actual newspaper articles and advertisements which provide information on the need to abolish slavery.
Purpose
- To explore the opinions and actions of people in Upper Canada on the issue of slavery
- To gain an understanding of the events and actions taken against slavery in Upper Canada prior to Britain’s Emancipation Act in 1833
- To write an editorial letter
