Family History Centres


All Archives of Ontario microfilm with reference numbers GS, GS 1, GS 2, and some MS series numbers are available to the general public through the Family History Centres of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (as well as at the Archives of Ontario).

Amongst other Ontario records, these include:

  • Estate Records (Wills): Most Indexes 1795-1960 and Estate Files 1795-1930 from the Probate and Surrogate Courts.
  • Land Registry Offices: Real Estate Abstract Indexes and Instruments for southern Ontario 1791-1900.
  • District (1801-1858) and County (1858-June 1869) Marriage Registers.
  • Ontario Vital Statistics Records (Office of the Registrar General): Indexes and Registrations of Births 1869-1912, Marriages 1869-1927, and Deaths 1869-1937.
  • Various municipal and township records.

The Centres may charge for the ordering of the film and will not answer mailed inquiries. Because each Centre has different service hours, always call before visiting.
