Indexes to Births and Stillbirths - 1869-1911

Check the microfilm listings table below for the year of the birth and surname initial of the person you are looking for. If you are unsure of the date of the birth, expand your search to include a greater number of years.

Once you have found the Index that may contain the birth you are looking for, note the MS 931 reel number found in the "Archives of Ontario Microfilm Reference" column of the table. You may then:

• Consult the appropriate reel at our reading room on the ground floor, 77 Grenville St., Toronto.
• Through the Interlibrary Loan Department of your public library, borrow the appropriate microfilm reel. Quote MS 931 and the appropriate reel #. These reels cannot leave the borrowing library, so make sure to request them from a library that has a microfilm reader.
• Borrow the film from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through their Family History Centres. The Family History Centres have a different numbering system than the Archives of Ontario. These Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU) conversion numbers have been provided in the right hand column of the table below or, for a complete list of all GSU conversion numbers, consult the Microfilm Conversion List.
• Purchase the appropriate microfilm reel directly from the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS). Quote MS 931 and the appropriate reel #. For information on how to place an order, visit the Ontario Genealogical Society website or contact the OGS at:

Before viewing the reel you have ordered, you may wish to consult: How to Use the Indexes to Birth and Stillbirth Registrations (RG 80-4).

If the person's name is not in the Indexes to Births and Stillbirths (RG 80-4), there is a very slight chance that the birth is indexed in the Original Index Books to Birth, Marriage and Death Registrations - July to December 1869 (RG 80-11) or in the Original Index Books to Birth and Stillbirth Registrations (RG 80-12).
