Jordi Bonet was born in Barcelona,
Spain in 1932 and died in Montreal,
Quebec in 1979. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 and subsequently
exhibited his drawings and paintings in Canada and abroad. Bonet
was a member of the Société des Artistes
Professionnels du Québec and the Royal
Canadian Academy of Arts. He was the recipient of a
number of awards, including the Royal Architectural
Institute of Canada Allied Arts Medal in 1965. He held
the position of Professor of Art at the School
of Architecture, University of Montreal until his death.

In this example of Bonet’s work, ceramic, his preferred
medium, was used with fired, coloured and glazed clay. This
piece has been interpreted in various ways: as a moonscape;
an ancient lake-bed with encrusted fossils; as the remains of
an archaeological dig; or, as a geological specimen-case.
