| In
1959, Beauchemin received a Canada Council Fellowship.
She spent several years studying in Japan
during the 1960s and completed this tapestry there. The
artist is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy
of Arts. In March of 2006, Beauchemin was one of seven recipients
to be honored with a Governor General's award in Visual
and Media Arts.
In this particular work, Beauchemin has combined
various woven materials, acrylic fibres and transparent acrylic
beads of fluorescent pigments to produce an effect reminiscent
of that of a large cathedral window or, perhaps, of the evolution
of new growth after the ice age.
