In 1986, further contemporary works entered the collection as a result of the Northern Ontario Relocation Programme (N.O.R.P).

This programme resulted in the construction of six new government buildings across Northern Ontario, in Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay.

As part of NORP, Art Selection Committees were appointed in these four cities.

Comprised of individuals with art expertise, the committees were responsible for eleven major commissions and the purchase of hundreds of works of art, created mostly by artists from the region.
