Early Gelatin Prints

Early gelatin prints first appeared in the late 1880s and are still in use today. The early prints had a glossy surface, and were usually toned with gold. The gelatin emulsion contained silver chloride, just like collodion papers. Like bromide developing-out papers, it was machine-coated on baryta stock. Silver mirroring is often seen in areas of shadow on these prints.
