Hands on History: Memories of Osgoode Hall - Page Banner

Artist Statement:

My interest in plant life attracted me to the architecture at Osgoode Hall, which makes extensive use of classical ornamentation based on plant motifs. The ornamentation is to me Osgoode Hall’s most significant feature. For reference and inspiration, I used the Osgoode Hall exhibition on the Archives of Ontario’s web site

In my tile, each ornament has been carefully chosen, placed, and orchestrated with others to create a lively yet plausible order that mirrors the function and classical style of the building. In this way, I tell a visual story of Osgoode Hall.

Historically, ceramics has played a major role in architecture. It is the perfect archival medium, producing a record that will last for millennia.

This project has enabled me to use my practice in ceramics to participate in the history of Ontario, of which I am not a native, but where I live now.
