A First Look Online. A Deeper Experience On Site

Experience Illuminate Black: Shining Light on the Black Presence in Ontario from anywhere through this interactive 360° tour. Whether you are across the province, exploring from home, or planning your visit, this virtual experience offers a meaningful introduction to the exhibit.

Move through selected spaces and discover stories that span more than 250 years of Black presence in Ontario. You will encounter glimpses of everyday life, community, and resilience through environments like the barber shop, kitchen, and U.N.I.A. hall. The tour allows you to explore at your own pace, offering flexible access to stories that may otherwise be out of reach.

This virtual experience is designed to open the door. It provides access, context, and a sense of what the exhibit holds.

At the same time, it is only part of the story.

The full exhibit is designed as an immersive, in-person experience. Physical artifacts, scale, sound, and spatial design come together to create moments that cannot be fully captured on screen. Being in the space allows you to engage more deeply, notice details, and connect with the stories in a more personal and reflective way.

If the virtual tour sparks your interest, we invite you to visit the Archives of Ontario to experience Illuminate Black in person—where the stories unfold more fully, and the impact stays with you.
