Certificate of good character for Laurent Quetton St. George, 1815
York, Upper Canada, 6th May
1815
“We, the Magistrates, Officers and
others whose names are undersigned do hereby certify that we
have known for many years past Mr. Lawrence Quetton St.
George who as a major in the French Army of Royalists
accompanied General Count De Puisaye with other French
Emigrants to this Country in the year 1798. That the said
Quetton St. George now established as a merchant in this
Colony has ever since his arrival and during his long
residence amongst us demeaned himself with honour and
dignity, and as a valuable and deserving member of society;
all which we willingly declare that he may carry this
testimonial with him to his Native
Country.”
