Marriage Registrations: 1801 - 1941


The Archives of Ontario holds marriage registrations and the indexes (where they exist), from 1801 to 1941. Please note that there are numerous gaps in the pre-1869 marriage records.


Where to find the records

Online at Ancestry – The following marriage records are available on www.ancestry.ca.  Free access to this site is available in the Archives of Ontario reading room and at all Ontario public libraries.

FamilySearch- Registrations of marriages for [ca. 1801]-1927 are available on www.familysearch.org.

On microfilm - egistrations and indexes of marriages for [ca. 1801]-1932 are available on microfilm, in the Archives of Ontario reading room and through the Microfilm Interloan Service. Marriage registrations for 1939-1941 are closed for digitization. Contact us if you require a copy for legal or humanitarian purposes.
