THE COMMISSIONER

Dennis R. O'Connor, the Commissioner of the Walkerton Inquiry, is a Justice of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He was appointed to the court in 1998. Prior to his appointment, Justice O'Connor was in private practice that involved a broad range of litigation, including commercial, securities law, administrative law and constitutional cases. He acted in several public inquiries and Royal Commissions and was the Chief Negotiator for the government of Canada Yukon Indian Land Claim. Justice O'Connor was Associate Professor of Law at the University of Western Ontario and taught at Osgoode Hall Law School from where he graduated in 1964. He served two terms as a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1966 and to the Bar of Alberta in 1986. Justice O'Connor is married and has two children.
