The governments of Ontario, Canada and private organizations worked in the century after the war to erect memorials of the battles and individuals who participated in the conflict.
The Lundy’s Lane Historical Society, the Wentworth Historical Society, the Ontario
Historical Society raised funds and organized commemorative
events marking the 50th, 75th, 100th and 150th anniversaries of
the conflict.

William Kirby, author of the Golden Dog, composed this poem to mark the unveiling of the Lundy's Lane memorial.
Kirby a well known novelist in his day, was also an important figure in the preservation of historic sites movement and in the popularization of the heroic image of the militia and redcoats standing together against the Americans.

The photograph above, taken in 1913, shows the Gage homestead and the new Stoney Creek Monument on the battlefield of that name. The monument, which was erected by the Wentforth Historical Society is situated south of the Hamilton-Niagara Falls highway.
