Merton F. Chambers was born in Exeter, Ontario in 1929. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and received a T. Eaton Company Travelling Scholarship for travel in Europe. The artist was the Canadian delegate in 1964 to the First World Congress of Craftsmen in New York City. The recipient of a Canada Council Senior Fellowship (1966-69), Chambers has exhibited in Canada, the U.S.A. and abroad.

The semi-abstract style utilized in the mural displayed here combines blue ceramic, unglazed terra cotta and Egyptian paste to suggest a group of organic forms floating in water.
