This microfilm contains the Ontario Genealogical Society's Cemetery Transcriptions completed up until December 2000.
A cemetery transcription is a systematic survey of the wording and location of each tombstone and memorial within a specific cemetery.
The Ontario Genealogical Society's Cemetery Transcriptions have been gathered together by the Archives to form Fonds F 977. This material has been microfilmed onto microfilm MS 451 in twelve separate batches. Each batch was alphabetically arranged by County or District, and within each, by the township or municipality. By 2001, about half of Ontario's cemeteries had been transcribed and 147 reels of microfilm produced.
Microfilm reel MS 451, Reel 76 contains an Index to the transcriptions. Arranged by County and District, then by Town and Township, the Index lists cemeteries transcribed and the microfilm reference. As the transcription work is still on-going, not all Counties, Districts, Townships, Municipalities or Cemeteries are yet listed.
The Cemetery Transcriptions are compiled through the extraordinary efforts of the Ontario Genealogical Society and its branches. While microfilmed by the Archives of Ontario, copyright resides with the Ontario Genealogical Society.
Reasonable, small quantities of reader- printer copies may be made from the microfilm for private research or reference purposes without authorization from the Ontario Genealogical Society.
