Donald Houstoun was born in Stevensville, Ontario in 1916. He studied at Toronto Western Technical School. His memberships include the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, the Ontario Society of Artists (Pres., 1961-64) and the Canadian Group of Painters in Water Colour (Pres., 1960-62). Houstoun’s technique relies on the use of the pallet knife, as this acrylic on canvas mural shows. The landscape format of this composition seems to suggest teeming organic life.
